From my book:
“Attribute” and “stat” may be used interchangeably. In other game systems, you may have an attribute and a separate bonus from the attribute, as in; “Strength 18, bonus to damage +4”, etc. In the OFRPG Alt-12 system, it’s diluted down to using just that bonus. So, for example, rather than having the superfluous value of Strength 18 which would never be rolled in game, you just have “Strength +4”. Conversely, for example, another game system might have something like “Intelligence 8, penalty -1”. In OFRPG; you’d simply have “Intellect -1”. It’s entirely possible to have Attributes with a negative final value. The final value may be Ø or lower: Example; the Artek race gets a +3 base Intellect. If you take away 4 from that stat by taking 4 levels of “Unintelligent”, the Artek character’s final Intellect stat is -1.
