Description
H’ueefi (hWEE fee) Large aquatic amphipod, Neutral. This armored, many-legged arthropod is known for its single, deadly arm that snaps out from the base of its head at lightning speed, and can break wood, bone and many kinds of armor. It tolerates no rivals in its territory, belligerently attacking anything it sees as a threat. Its vision is unparalleled among the Ketan species. It is a brightly colored, naturally armored agent of death.
"Djho-vahk h'ueefi mach," the old DJringlin guide rumbled.
"What'd he say?" asked the Human.
"He said 'beware of the h'ueefi'," I replied. Before I could elaborate, the man interrupted.
"'Wee-fee??'" he chuckled. "What a silly name!"
The guide noticed the man's mirth and added with a snort, "Duun puju'sod h'ueefi nep."
"Huh?" the Human looked to me for an explanation.
"Do not mock the h'ueefi," I translated.
"Ha ha!" he laughed derisively. My statement had only served to fuel the man's merriment. He said, "What could be so scary about something called a Wee… AHHHH!" His sentence was cut short as many-legged death wrapped in chitin burst forth from the brackish marsh…
